Applications are now being accepted for the 2019-2020 school year. Students applying for admission to the Magnet Music Program.
Audition Process
1. Pitch Matching: Students will be asked to sing back a sequence of pitches ranging in length from 3 to 5 notes.
2. Echo Clapping: Students will be asked to echo clap various rhythmic patterns.
3. Happy Birthday: Students will be asked to sing Happy Birthday. Interval jumps within the song being sung in tune are the most important aspect of this section of the audition.
4. Short Selection: Students are encouraged to perform a short musical selection on an instrument or using their voice. All instruments, except piano, music be provided by the student. No accompaniment is allowed.
5. Interview: Students are asked a variety of questions to ascertain their interest level and personality.

Magnet Application (3-5 grades)
Students interested in applying must print the Magnet Application form or complete it online from the School of Choice (Miami-Dade County Public Schools) website.
On that application, you can choose up to five magnet schools you can apply. One of those must be South Miami K-8 Center. Complete the application and mail it to the School of Choice (not South Miami K-8 Center). The address is on the form.
Please make sure your child meets eligibility requirements before you apply. Students who do not meet magnet criteria will be declared ineligible.

Upload previous year final report card and first grading period report card, if your child does not attend Miami Dade County Public Schools.

Attend Magnet Tour offered every other Wednesday of every month beginning in October.
